Dundee Stars 1 Nottingham Panthers 4

Nottingham suffered their first loss of the season last night in Belfast as they went down by the odd goal in three, they were back on the mainland as they headed to Dundee for tonight’s encounter. The game could have went either way with only the one goal in it with ten minutes to play. Panthers effectively killed the game with two goals late in the third period.

Panthers got off to the perfect start with a goal from Stephen Lee with only 50 seconds on the clock. Despite outshooting their opponents 17-4 this turned out to be the only goal of the 1st period.

The second period again only saw the one goal and again it came the way of the visitors as Guillaume Lepine found the net at 36.42 with a powerplay strike, to give them a two-goal lead.

The hosts pulled one back at 5056 as Jarrett Konkle netted to make it a one goal game. However, at 56.51 David Clarke scored on the powerplay and then at 58.57 Robert Lachowicz found the empty net after the Stars had pulled the goaltender.

League Game
Hull Stingrays 3 Fife Flyers 2 (after penalty shots)

It took a penalty shot from Dmitry Rodin to decide the outcome of this game. After 65 minutes of hockey the teams were level at two apiece and round three of the penalties saw Rodin get the game winner, to give the Humberside team their first league win.

Only one goal separated the teams after the first session and it came the way of the home team at 7.03 as Jereme Tendler netted on the powerplay.

The second stanza again only saw the one goal this time it came from the visitors at 32.01 as Steve Gunn squared the game up at one apiece.

The third period saw Fife start without goaltender Garrett Zemlac who was ejected at the end of the second period on a 5 + game for excessive roughness.

The hosts took advantage of this straight away as inside the first minute of the third period, Dmitry Rodin put them in front for the second time with a goal at 40.51. However, Fife player/coach Todd Dutiame levelled things once again with a powerplay goal at 49.16.

This was how it remained throughout the remainder of the period and the five minutes of overtime. The game would be decided by a penalty shootout.

The first round of penalties saw Tendler and Stewart as the only markers. The second round saw all three attempts by both teams missed. Onto round three, Hamilton missed for Fife leaving Rodin to net his and give the Stingrays the extra point.

After this home loss Coventry have it all to do in their quest for a semi-final berth in this year’s Challenge Cup. The game saw Stevie Lyle of Cardiff post his second shutout of the season.

After a goalless first period Scott Matzka put Cardiff in front with a strike at 27.11. This turned out to be the only goal of the period.

With the game hanging in the balance and Coventry contemplating pulling goaltender Hirsch the Devils scored their second at 57.20 as Sam Smith scored.
