Portwood Push For Capitals Both On And Off The Ice

Capitals Forward, Jade Portwood will return to the club for the 13/14 season with an additional role to play. Portwood is completing a Degree in Sports Marketing through The University of Edinburgh, supported through the Capitals Educational Programme, which is run in conjunction with the university.

As well as continuing to play for coach Richard Hartmann, Jade will also utilise his Sports Marketing Degree as an employee of Crest Sports Group where he can now target commercial opportunities for the Capitals.

Portwood is very happy to be returning to the club and commented, "Last year was a season I will never forget. The push towards the Play Offs was one of the greatest runs I have ever been on. The atmosphere around the players and fans during the run was amazing. It is great to see a large portion of our core returning next year and I want to be a contributing factor in a team that aims to return to the Play Offs for a second straight year. I want to thank the fans for all the support over the last year, the love has been felt. I would also like to thank the Capitals organisation for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love while supporting me in my educational endeavours. As a result of this I am pursuing a career in sports business as I start working with Crest Sports Group."

Scott Neil said, "I would like to thank the University of Edinburgh for participating in the Educational Programme, as well as Crest Sports for giving Jade this opportunity and dedicating part of his off-ice work to specifically target opportunities for the Capitals. This is an important role and we are delighted that Jade is not only returning as a player but also to work on the Capitals commercial work."

Coach, Richard Hartmann said, "It is good to get another of last years squad back to the team.  Jade brings us size, energy, strength, grit and wins his battles on the boards as well as contributing with points. The continuity is good for the dressing room and performance on the ice and with a longer pre-season training programme planned this year, we hope to get off to a flying start."
