Here's the Capitals match report from R&J Stats for Saturday 15/09/12
Challenge Cup Group A
Dundee Stars 3 Edinburgh Capitals 2
The Stars took the points in this Challenge Cup game as they came out on top by the odd goal in five. Both teams could have more goals on the board but their powerplay units were absent for the night. Out of 17 powerplays there was only the one goal scored with the man advantage.
It took until almost halfway through the first period before the opening goal was scored and it came the way of the home side as they found themselves in front as A J MacLean scored on the powerplay at 9.54. The visitors were back on level terms as Martin Cingel fired home at 12.33.
The teams exchanged goals for a second time as first Mike Wirl at 34.09 put the home side in front once again, only for Rene Jarolin at 37.48 to restore equality. However, with five seconds remaining in the period the hosts took the initiative for a third time as Tristan Harper netted to give them a one-goal lead with two periods gone.
Despite both teams having chances in the third period neither team could add to their goal column and Dundee held on to pick up their first win of the season.
